The recent spike by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has ignited a wave of criticism, with many Nigerians voicing their frustrations across social media platforms.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement shared via his X handle on Saturday, Mr. Obi condemned the NNPCL’s decision to raise fuel prices without offering any justification, labeling it as “unfortunate and insensitive.”
He asserted that this move not only highlights the federal government’s misguided policy choices but also reflects a troubling lack of empathy for the struggles faced by the Nigerian populace.
Obi stated: “As Nigerians continue to groan under extremely difficult economic conditions, largely due to the Federal Government’s poor policy decisions, the NNPCL has once again increased the price of fuel (PMS) without providing any rationale.
“This is both unfortunate and insensitive, especially given the far-reaching negative implications for our economic survival and overall well-being.
“This is not how a country should manage its resources or govern its people. In this latest action, there is a blatant absence of sound economics and essential compassion.
“We are told that the NNPCL now operates as a limited liability company, regulated by agencies like the NUPRC and NMDPRA, yet confusion seems to prevail regarding the roles and responsibilities of the NNPCL and these regulatory bodies.
“Remarkably, both the NNPCL and these regulatory agencies are meant to fall under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, with the President of Nigeria serving as the substantive Minister.
“Who is truly regulating whom in this arrangement? With the unprecedented but avoidable suffering that Nigerians are experiencing, the onus of providing a comprehensive explanation, proposing alternative solutions, and, most importantly, reversing this sudden price hike lies firmly on President Tinubu.”
