In a move stirring both intrigue and controversy, the former 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, embarked on a series of high-profile visits today. The highlight of his day saw him paying a courtesy call on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at his private residence in Abuja.
Atiku himself took to social media to share snapshots of their rendezvous, captioning the post with gratitude: “It was my honour and privilege to host @PeterObi today. -AA” READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE
However, the warmth of this meeting was quickly overshadowed by revelations surfacing online mere moments later. Reports emerged indicating that prior to his visit with Atiku, Obi had also made time to meet with former Governor Sule Lamido. This meeting stirred significant buzz, particularly due to the cloud of allegations surrounding Lamido, who stands accused of embezzling billions during his tenure, as per anti-graft agency reports.
These visits, purportedly part of Obi’s ongoing consultations in anticipation of the forthcoming presidential election, have ignited a flurry of criticism. Many have questioned the optics of associating with figures such as Atiku and Lamido, both of whom have faced their fair share of corruption allegations.
Of particular note is Obi’s own past rhetoric, where he has not hesitated to denounce individuals implicated in corruption scandals as part of a “structure of criminality,” including figures similar to Atiku and Lamido.
See some reactions below:
Deji Adeyanju: “If not SOWORE then let Tinubu have it. Two PDP clowns. ”
Daniel Regha: “Atiku is hosting Peter Obi; Isn’t this the same Obi that claims to be fighting the system for a new Nigeria? But it’s not surprising though, w¤rse has been seen.”
