LPPC Unveils 68 New Senior Advocates of Nigeria—See the Full List

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 68 legal practitioners following the completion of the 2026 selection process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The successful candidates comprise 67 legal practitioners in active advocacy and one academic, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri.

The approvals were granted during the LPPC’s 174th plenary session held on Thursday in Abuja and chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

In a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akanbi, the committee described the SAN title as the highest professional honour in Nigeria’s legal profession, awarded only to lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional excellence in advocacy or made remarkable contributions to legal scholarship.

According to the committee, the 68 successful applicants emerged after successfully completing the rigorous selection process prescribed under the LPPC guidelines.

The committee further directed all successful candidates to participate in and complete the mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme, which will be organised in accordance with the directives of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN).

It noted that successful completion of the induction programme is a compulsory requirement before the formal conferment of the SAN rank, adding that the date for the exercise will be announced in due course.

The LPPC also reminded the successful candidates that they are prohibited from publishing, sponsoring or encouraging congratulatory advertisements, goodwill messages or public notices relating to their elevation.

According to the committee, the restriction is in line with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023. It warned that any violation of the provisions could attract disciplinary sanctions.

The committee fixed Monday, October 12, 2026, as the date for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elevated Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
