Represented by her Special Assistant on Social Development, Helen Zamani, the minister emphasized that filmmaking has evolved beyond entertainment, now serving as a reflection of shared experiences, struggles, and dreams. “The Zuma Film Festival is not just an event; it is a movement—a platform that brings together voices, ideas, and visions that shape the narrative of who we are and where we are headed,” Mahmoud remarked.

The minister further noted that technology, particularly tools like virtual reality and artificial intelligence, is rapidly changing how audiences engage with films. She urged filmmakers to embrace these innovations while staying true to the authenticity that makes their stories unique. “In an era of rapid technological advancement, we must adapt to these tools, which are transforming storytelling and audience interaction,” she said.

Despite the challenges facing the entertainment industry, Mahmoud commended the organizers of the Zuma Film Festival for providing a platform to showcase the future of African cinema. Ali Nuhu, Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, lauded the festival as a symbol of African creativity and innovation. He also pointed out that this year’s theme, “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future!”, highlights the crucial role of digital technology in reshaping filmmaking and storytelling on the continent.
