Major Shake-Up At Dangote Group As Former CBN Boss Lands Top Economic Role
The Dangote Group has named respected economist and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) director, Dr. Mahmud Hassan, as its Group Chief Economist.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday, with the conglomerate saying the appointment is designed to strengthen its economic advisory capabilities at a time of heightened global and domestic market uncertainty.
In the role, Dr. Hassan will report directly to the Group President, Aliko Dangote, and will act as the chief advisor on economic strategy, market developments, and policy impacts across the Group’s wide-ranging businesses.
Dr. Hassan brings more than three decades of experience spanning economic policy development, financial sector regulation, and central banking.
During his career at the CBN, he held several senior positions, including Director of the Trade and Exchange Department, Director of the Monetary Policy Department, Secretary to the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), and Special Assistant on Economic Policy and Research to the CBN Governor.
Academically, he holds a PhD in Economics and an MSc in Energy Economics and Policy from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, as well as a BSc in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School and possesses professional certifications as a Bank Examiner and an AML/CFT Analyst.
Outside the private sector, Dr. Hassan has contributed significantly to regional economic integration, serving as a lead consultant to the African Union Commission on trade integration initiatives and the establishment of the African Monetary Fund.
He also lectures as a visiting professor at several Nigerian universities and currently serves as President of the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics.
