The engagement marks Tinubu’s first high-level session with the military leadership since the swearing-in of retired General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence on December 4.
The meeting is taking place against the backdrop of mounting security challenges, notably the prolonged captivity of 115 students abducted from a Catholic boarding school in Niger State in November, a development that has heightened public concern and renewed calls for urgent government action.
It also follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency on November 26 after a surge in insecurity nationwide. At the time, he approved fresh recruitment into security agencies and ordered the withdrawal of police officers attached to VIPs to bolster internal security operations.
Additionally, the talks come shortly after the Senate endorsed the President’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin following reports of an attempted coup in the neighbouring country.
Details of the closed-door discussions between the President and the Service Chiefs have not yet been disclosed.
