Major Shake-Up In Ekiti As Oyebanji Removes Political Appointees, Board Members

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the termination of the appointments of political appointees across various boards, commissions and parastatals in the state as his first term draws to a close.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the development was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode. The affected officials include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants.

However, the statement clarified that the dissolution does not affect chairmen and members of statutory boards, including the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions are also unaffected and will remain in place in accordance with earlier directives from the Governor.

Oyebode further stated that the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission would remain in office, although the respective boards under them have been dissolved.

Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the Governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.

The decision, according to the statement, is part of the process of winding down Oyebanji’s first term ahead of his second-term inauguration scheduled for October 16, 2026.

The state government explained that the administrative changes became necessary as the current tenure approaches its conclusion and preparations begin for the commencement of the Governor’s second term.

Governor Oyebanji also expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and their service to Ekiti State, while acknowledging their roles in the achievements recorded during his first term.
