Makinde Vs Tinubu: Wike’s Insider Reveals Reason Behind Governor’s Withdrawal

The Media Aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has claimed that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s fallout with President Bola Tinubu stems from the rejection of his ministerial nominee.

Makinde, during a media interaction with selected journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday, announced that he would not be supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid. The governor also accused Wike of attempting to destabilize the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to favour Tinubu’s re-election and hinted that he may contest against the president.

Responding to these remarks, Lere Olayinka, in a Facebook post, suggested that Makinde would still be backing Tinubu if his ministerial nominee had been approved. He wrote:
“If Governor Seyi Makinde’s nominee for Oyo State ministerial position had been accepted by President Tinubu, he would still be clapping for the President now.”

In a follow-up post, Lere argued that Makinde has historically been loyal to neither individuals nor political parties, citing his previous defections.

He added:
*”In 2007, he left the PDP for ANPP after failing to secure a senatorial ticket. In 2015, he left PDP for SDP after losing the governorship ticket. In 2019, if he had not obtained the PDP governorship ticket, he likely would have defected again.

“In 2023, he joined the PDP G5 Governors to secure his re-election. Governor Seyi Makinde is known for prioritizing himself over party loyalty, and after 2027, he may well join another party.

“In 2022, he worked against Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to ensure he would be the only PDP governor in the Southwest. Ibadan Gomina General has never been loyal to anyone or any party; his focus has always been on himself. If you doubt this, ask Hon. Mulikat Adeola, Hon. Muraina, HE Hazeem Gbolarumi, Olopoeeyan, Auxiliary, Senator Hosea Agboola, and others.”*
