Adriano Assis recounted his experience of finishing his hospital shift and arriving late for his 11:56 am flight from Cascavel Regional Airport in Paraná to São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport. Although he reached the airport by 9:40 am, there was no agent at the counter, so he waited upstairs and had coffee.

Despite his hopes for an announcement or assistance, none came, and he found a long queue downstairs by 10:30 am. When he attempted to check in at 10:41 am, he was told it was too late, as it was already an hour before the flight’s departure.

Tragically, Voepass Airlines Flight 2283 crashed behind a condominium in Vinhedo, São Paulo, on Friday, killing all 58 passengers and four crew members. Assis discovered the crash news while still at the airport.

He later returned to thank the airport staff who had denied him boarding, expressing his gratitude for what he now considers a life-saving decision. Assis also noted that ten other passengers who were waiting at the wrong gate were unable to board the flight and have similarly expressed their thanks.
