Marriage Is Not The Core Of My Existence — Bisola Aiyeola Speaks At 40

Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has revealed that she is not under pressure to get married, stressing that marriage is not the central focus of her life and that she is content with her current situation.

The actress, who turned 40 in January, made this known during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where she shared her views on marriage, relationships and the challenges of raising a child as a single parent.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Bisola questioned the purpose of remaining in a marriage when one partner is expected to shoulder most of the responsibilities without receiving adequate support from the other.

She explained that some women are responsible for providing for their families, raising their children and managing their homes, while their husbands continue to expect them to meet their needs without contributing enough to ease the burden.

The actress suggested that such situations could make women reconsider the value of marriage, particularly when they are already handling responsibilities that should be shared by both partners.

Bisola stated that although marriage remains an important institution in society, she would only consider it if the opportunity arose naturally, insisting that it was not essential to her personal fulfilment.

“Marriage is an institution, it is essential for society. For me, if marriage does come, I will get married, but it is not the core of my existence. I mean, I’m doing pretty good,” she said.

Speaking about her experience as a single mother, the actress acknowledged that raising a child without a partner is challenging. She disclosed that she makes a conscious effort to ensure her daughter understands the difficulties associated with single parenting.

Bisola said she has warned her daughter against viewing single parenthood as something to aspire to, emphasising that the responsibility of raising a child should not rest entirely on one person.

She maintained that bringing up a child requires shared responsibility and support, noting that the demands of parenting can become overwhelming when one person is left to handle everything alone.

The actress’s comments have highlighted ongoing conversations about marriage, shared responsibilities in relationships and the challenges faced by single parents, as she reiterated that she is open to marriage but will not allow societal expectations to dictate her decisions.
