Masquerade Mayhem: Three Arrested in Nsukka for Terrorizing Community

The Enugu State Police Command has taken three masqueraders into custody in the Nsukka area for allegedly attacking innocent residents.

The spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu that the suspects were apprehended on June 23 at about 3:30 p.m. by police operatives, with the support of local community members.

He explained that the arrest was linked to the alleged physical assault of residents by members of the ‘Oriokpa’ Masquerade group on June 22—a disturbing incident captured in a viral video.

According to Ndukwe, the suspects, along with others still at large, exploited the masquerade celebration to launch attacks on innocent citizens, causing various injuries.

“One of the victims sustained serious wounds and was hospitalised for medical care,” he said.

He added that the masqueraders initially resisted arrest and fled the scene before they were eventually apprehended.
