Massive Blaze Consumes 50 Shops In Kano Market

In the early hours of Monday, a devastating midnight fire wreaked havoc at Yan Katako Market in the Rijiyar Lemu area of Fagge Local Government Area in Kano State, resulting in the destruction of more than 50 shops and property estimated at N150 million.

Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, the market chairman, informed reporters that the inferno erupted around 1 am. The affected shops housed various items, including plywood, foam, spray machines, chairs, and carpentry tools. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

While praising the swift response of the Kano State Fire Service personnel, Abdullahi called on the state government and philanthropists to provide support to the affected traders who have lost their livelihoods.

Confirming the incident, Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, disclosed that approximately 25 shops were completely razed by the flames, with several others either touched or partially affected. The fire department received distress calls around 1 am and successfully extinguished the fire by 2 am.

The market chairman’s appeal for assistance echoes the urgent need for aid, as many traders now face the daunting task of rebuilding their businesses.
