Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been out of action for over a week following a case of gastroenteritis that required brief hospitalization. The 26-year-old has since been on a slow path to recovery, training alone in the gym and doing light exercises.
His condition forced him to sit out the team’s first two FIFA Club World Cup matches against Al-Hilal and Pachuca.
Signs of Recovery
Now, with their final Group H game against RB Salzburg approaching, Mbappe has returned to group training—raising hopes of a comeback. Nonetheless, it remains uncertain if he will be fit enough to play, and even if he is, Real Madrid are likely to take a cautious approach, especially considering reports that he’s lost 4–5 kilograms during his illness.
Gonzalo Garcia, who has impressed so far in Mbappe’s absence, is expected to remain in the starting XI. Still, Mbappe, who scored 43 goals domestically this season, will be keen to add to his tally in the Club World Cup as soon as he’s back to full strength.
