MDCAN Calls On FG To Implement Subsidies For Electricity Costs In Public Hospitals And Schools

This appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the National Executive Council (NEC) to President Tinubu in Abuja. The visit was part of MDCAN’s ongoing advocacy efforts to address the challenges facing the health sector and improve the welfare of its members.

In addition to the tariff issue, MDCAN called for a healthcare and education summit and the training and re-training of medical doctors, both domestically and internationally, to ensure they are up-to-date with global best practices. The association also requested the President’s intervention in aligning the CONMESS salary structure for consultants, increasing the retirement age for hospital consultants to 70 years, and reviewing the CONMESS salary structure and allowances.

President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister for Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, assured MDCAN that their concerns would be communicated to the President for prompt action. Prof. Pate noted that President Tinubu has prioritized the health sector and some concerns are already being addressed. He encouraged MDCAN to view the Ministry of Health as a key partner in advancing the sector and expressed confidence that the President will address the issues within his authority.
