In Sokoto, influential PDP leaders—led by former Governor Aminu Tambuwal—are reportedly aligning with the newly established political platform, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), one of 110 emerging parties seeking registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to sources who spoke with The Punch, the decision to begin the defection process was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday. “We had a critical strategy session, and the main focus was on finalising our integration into ADA. An official declaration will be made soon,” a source disclosed.
Attendees at the meeting included Umar Bature, PDP National Organising Secretary; Senator Aminu Tambuwal; Sokoto State PDP Chairman, Aliyu Goronyo; and other notable stakeholders.
When contacted, PDP Publicity Secretary in Sokoto, Hassan Sanyinnawal, confirmed the meeting took place at Senator Tambuwal’s residence but declined to comment on any merger plans. “Yes, there was a stakeholders’ meeting. It was a routine gathering—nothing alarming,” he said.
Kebbi PDP Vows to Join Coalition to Dismantle APC
In a parallel development, PDP leaders in Kebbi State also held a strategy session in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday. At the meeting, they reaffirmed their intention to work with other opposition forces to present a strong challenge to the APC at both state and national levels.
Speaking to journalists, party elder and chieftain Ibrahim Mera said the Kebbi PDP is open to collaborations with any credible groups seeking to end what he described as the suffering brought on by APC governance.
“We are willing to engage with political forces and alliances committed to rebuilding Nigeria and easing the hardship imposed by the APC government,” Mera said.
He also noted that the party is preparing for a state congress, pending a green light from the PDP national headquarters.
Kebbi State PDP Chairman, Usman Suru, urged Nigerians to stay hopeful amid economic struggles. “Our people are enduring harsh conditions. The PDP is working to provide a better path forward that focuses on the people’s welfare and security,” he said.
Meanwhile, retired General Aminu Bande, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, criticized the APC-led state government for alleged misgovernance and repression. “They’ve turned to intimidation—arresting and harassing opposition members without cause,” he claimed.
