Military Forces Seize 27 Bags Of Illegal Substances In Badagry Operation

In a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Customs Service, military personnel operating within the 81 Division Nigerian Army Area of Responsibility successfully detected and seized 27 sacks believed to contain illicit drugs in the Badagry area of Lagos state.

The revelation was made in an official statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Olalekan Olabisi Ayeni, shared on the army’s official X handle on Tuesday, March 5.

The statement detailed the operation, citing the troops’ extraordinary vigilance on March 2, 2024, when they intercepted two boats suspected of transporting illicit substances based on credible intelligence. The covert operation took place at Ajido in Badagry, resulting in the discovery of 27 sacks filled with the suspected drugs. Unfortunately, the perpetrators managed to evade arrest by jumping into the river upon spotting the approaching troops.

In a separate incident, the troops intercepted smugglers transporting 77 sacks of Petroleum Motor Spirit in the Fabre area of Badagry. The seized petroleum products were handed over to the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme, while the sacks containing suspected drugs were transferred to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Seme Command.

Major General MT Usman, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, commended the troops for their professionalism. He also urged law-abiding citizens in Lagos and Ogun States to continue supporting the troops and other security agencies by providing credible information to counter criminal activities and uphold the peace in the region.
