General Oluyede issued the directive on Thursday while addressing Battalion Commanders at the recently concluded First Commanding Officers’ Workshop for 2025, held at the Headquarters 2 Division during his operational and administrative assessment of the Division.
According to a statement by Army Spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Oluyede emphasized that the Battalion Commanders serve as a critical link between the operational and tactical levels of command. He urged them to exhibit strong leadership qualities, including responsibility, accountability, and moral courage, to effectively lead their troops in both combat and peacetime operations.
The Army Chief stressed the need for Commanding Officers to aggressively counter security threats within their respective areas of responsibility.
He described the workshop’s theme, “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership Within a Joint Environment,” as highly relevant and aligned with his command philosophy to modernize the Nigerian Army. He also reaffirmed the importance of unwavering loyalty to the government and the constitution.
General Oluyede commended Major General Sadiq Ndalolo, the Chief of Training (Army), and his team for organizing the capacity-building workshop for Battalion Commanders.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda, Oluyede underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing military operations.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu, emphasized that the workshop aimed to reinforce the commitment of Battalion Commanders to the COAS’ vision of a highly motivated and combat-ready force. He noted that the training would enhance their tactical capabilities, strategic planning, and leadership skills for greater operational efficiency.
Additionally, General Oluyede addressed troops at the Garrison Parade Ground, acknowledging their sacrifices in tackling security challenges across the country. He urged them to remain steadfast, professional, and dedicated to their duties.
