The Federal Government’s tripartite committee comprising 37 members, dedicated to deliberating on the minimum wage, is poised to reconvene in mid-April for further discussions and consultations regarding the new minimum wage. This announcement was made by Hakeem Ambali, the National Treasurer of the Nigeria Labour Congress and a member of the committee, during an interview with The Punch correspondent in Abuja on Sunday.
Ambali emphasized that the committee is actively engaged in gathering and analyzing reports from the zonal public hearings. These reports were collected from public hearings held across the nation’s six geopolitical zones between Wednesday, March 27, 2024, and Thursday, March 28, 2024.
Throughout these public hearings, various zones proposed differing minimum wage amounts, which are expected to mitigate the effects of the Premium Motor Spirit subsidy removal once officially unveiled.
Reportedly, proposals for the minimum wage during these public hearings included N794,000 from the South West, N560,000 from the North East, N485,000 from the North West, N709,000 from the North Central, N850,000 from the South-South, and N540,000 from the South East.
Reflecting on the outcomes of the recent meeting, Ambali stated, “We have been compiling and analyzing zonal reports.”
