In a significant stride towards infrastructural development, the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, commissioned the reconstructed Abraka-Oben Phase 1 road and flagged off the rehabilitation of the Abraka-Agbor Road in Delta State. This milestone marks a testament to the transformative agenda of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under the renewed leadership of its board and management.

For residents and commuters, this development is a long-awaited dream come true. The deteriorated state of these roads had for years posed serious challenges, not only hampering trade and transport but also serving as a hotspot for criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed robbery. With the completion of this phase, travel time between Benin and surrounding areas has been significantly reduced to approximately 35-40 minutes, enhancing safety and economic activities across Ethiope East in Delta State and Orhionmwon in Edo State.

The event witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including the Governor of Delta State, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by his Commissioner for Roads and Highways, Comrade Reuben Izeze. After personally inspecting the project, Izeze commended the quality of work executed by the contractors, affirming that the project met high standards.

Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, who represents Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was also present at the commissioning and expressed gratitude to the President, the Minister, and the NDDC for their dedicated efforts in revitalizing critical infrastructure in the region.

A remarkable moment during the flag-off ceremony was when the Minister himself took control of construction equipment, personally driving the machinery to commence the next phase of the road project. This hands-on approach underscored his dedication to ensuring the swift execution of developmental projects under his supervision.

Under the leadership and supervision of Engr. Abubakar Momoh, the NDDC has gained widespread recognition for its accelerated project execution. The Minister lauded the agency’s performance, emphasizing that its success stems from a disciplined and harmonious approach between the management board and the council. He called on other development commissions to draw inspiration from the NDDC’s effective project execution strategies.
