Mo Abudu Opens Up On Dating Younger Men, Says She Prefers Men Her Age Or Older

Nigerian filmmaker and media entrepreneur Mo Abudu has explained why she prefers dating men around her age or slightly older, saying financial independence, mutual respect and personal achievement are important factors in any relationship she considers.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the 62-year-old media executive shared her views during an interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, where she discussed heartbreak, relationships and the standards she expects from a potential partner.

Speaking about emotional heartbreak, Abudu dismissed the suggestion that a romantic relationship could easily make her cry at this stage of her life. She explained that her emotional struggles were more likely to stem from her work than from a man.

“I even cried recently. Heartbreak. Heartbreak. Nobody can break my heart. It’s not possible. Heartbreak. There’s no such thing as heartbreak at my age,” she said.

Abudu added that although she had experienced the emotional challenges associated with relationships when she was younger, her priorities had changed over time.

“If I cry, it’s not because of man. It may be because of my work. A man cannot make me cry. Okay, surely maybe when I was younger. I mean, we’ve all been there,” she stated.

When asked whether she would accept a date from a man who approached her, the filmmaker said her decision would depend on whether he met her personal standards and expectations.

Abudu explained that she had established clear goals for herself and would only consider a relationship with someone whose values and achievements aligned with hers.

She also emphasised that she was financially independent and capable of providing for herself and her family, adding that she did not need a partner to take on those responsibilities.

“The point is that I’m at a point in my life whereby I don’t need you to provide for me, right? I can pretty much provide for myself. I can provide for my family, which I do,” she said.

The media entrepreneur stressed that she was not interested in entering a relationship that would create additional burdens, noting that mutual respect was essential to building a meaningful partnership.

“The thing is that I don’t want anyone in my life that’s going to be a burden on me,” Abudu added.

She further disclosed that she was uncomfortable with the idea of dating younger men, explaining that her personal values and traditional outlook influenced her preference for partners around her age or older.

“I would rather date someone my age or someone slightly older,” she said.

Abudu also maintained that she values personal accomplishment in a potential partner, arguing that a man should have achieved something meaningful in life, particularly by the age of 60.

“And therefore, in order for me to respect you, you must have achieved something. You must have. Because if you haven’t achieved it at 60, when do you want to achieve it?” she asked.
