Morka further stated that Governor Fubara had been ruling unlawfully and unconstitutionally for over 14 months. He made these remarks on Friday during an appearance on Arise News, in response to President Tinubu’s decision to suspend the governor, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly amid a prolonged political crisis.

The president also appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas as the state’s sole administrator.

Morka criticized Governor Fubara for undermining the state assembly, claiming the governor had effectively “demolished” the legislature by locking lawmakers out. He accused Fubara of denying them their rights, freezing their allowances and resources, and bypassing the elected assembly by appointing a small group to act as his legislature.

“Fubara not only ignored the assembly, but he also froze all resources allocated to them and sidelined the democratically elected body in favor of a handpicked group,” Morka said. “He governed illegally for over 14 months, slapping democracy in the face.”

Morka argued that Governor Fubara’s actions led to a constitutional crisis in Rivers State, which forced President Tinubu to intervene and declare the state of emergency to prevent further escalation. “The constitutional crisis in Rivers State was created by Governor Fubara, and it was only the state of emergency that could have averted it,” Morka added.
