Despite a thrilling 12th-minute stoppage-time winner from Sofyan Amrabat, Mourinho was unhappy with the officiating, especially the two contentious penalties awarded to the home side, claiming that VAR favored Trabzonspor.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has now issued a hefty fine and additional sanctions in response. In a statement, the TFF explained that Mourinho’s comments during the post-match interview and press conference violated the principles of sportsmanship and fair play, tarnished the reputation of the TFF, and questioned the impartiality of referees and officials.

As a result, Mourinho has been fined 900,000 TL (approximately £20,178) under Article 38/4-a of the FDT for unsportsmanlike conduct. Additionally, he has been fined £1,300 and banned for one match, which includes being prohibited from entering the dressing room or being present on the touchline.
