According to a statement released by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, on Friday, August 23, 2024, several criminals, including terrorists and a Tiv militia leader named Mela Selim, have been apprehended. Selim is believed to be behind the killing of a traditional ruler of Chanchangi and his son in Jankindo village, located in the Takum Local Government Area of the state.
These operations, carried out in different Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Taraba State, led to the capture of numerous criminals, kidnappers, terrorists, and suspected bandits.
On August 18, 2024, based on reliable intelligence, troops raided a criminal hideout in Takum LGA, resulting in the arrest of a suspected kidnapper named David Musa. Preliminary investigations have linked Musa to a notorious kidnap kingpin, Ephraim, also known as “Skin the Body.” Musa is currently undergoing further interrogation to unveil more details about the criminal network.
In another operation on August 20, 2024, troops detained two suspected gunrunners, James Nuhu and Dan-Asabe Ango, in Wukari LGA. Under interrogation, these suspects admitted their involvement in various criminal activities within Wukari and its environs. They also identified Ibrahim Philemon as the group’s armourer, who was responsible for storing weapons and managing the proceeds of their criminal undertakings.
Acting swiftly on this information, troops launched a follow-up operation at Philemon’s residence, where they discovered a safe containing a substantial quantity of 7.62mm ammunition and assorted weapons.
Additionally, acting on intelligence regarding the movement of two members of the Konyo-led Tiv militias along the Takum–Katsina-Ala Road in Takum LGA, security forces conducted a covert operation that resulted in the arrest of Fidelis Nyitar and Isaiah Ioraa. Initial investigations indicated that the suspects were on their way to Takum to acquire logistical supplies for militia cells hiding between Dogon Gawa in Takum LGA and Tor Donga in Benue State. Both suspects are currently in custody, undergoing further investigation.
Furthermore, on August 21, 2024, troops successfully tracked down and captured Mela Selim, a Tiv militia kingpin believed to be the mastermind behind the assassination of the Chief of Chanchangi at Jankindo Village in Takum LGA on July 19, 2024. Selim is now under interrogation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the militia group.
In another engagement, troops of the 6 Brigade, along with members of the Vigilante, encountered an ambush by terrorists while patrolling the Lissam, Kuruku, and Kwesati communities in Ussa LGA. The troops effectively repelled the ambush with superior firepower, causing the terrorists to
