Thousands of faithful from both religions gathered in their respective places of worship, with Muslims observing the prayer in their mosques and Christians gathering at the First Baptist Church, Maiduguri.

The Shehu also directed district and village heads to mobilize their subjects to support the needy, orphans, and the disabled as part of the prayers.

During the prayer session for Christians at the Baptist Church, the state Chairman of CAN, Most Rev John Bakeni, emphasized seeking God’s face and abiding by His ways for blessings and good tidings.

The Bishop of Maiduguri Anglican Diocese, Rev Emmanuel Morris, also offered prayers for peace and fruitful rainfall in the state to ensure a bumper harvest.

The spiritual exercise comes in the wake of a warning by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) about heavy flooding likely to occur in several Nigerian states during the 2023 rainy season.

At least 14 states, including Borno, were listed as potential flood-prone areas, with specific communities at risk of heavy rainfall between July 4 and 8.

NEMA advised relevant stakeholders in the mentioned states to take precautionary measures to prevent loss of lives and property.
