Mutfwang Appoints 16 Dismissed PDP Members To Key Positions....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has recently extended fresh appointments to the sixteen ousted lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state’s House of Assembly. According to reports, the Governor has designated them as liaison officers for their respective constituencies.
This development comes after the 16 lawmakers lost their seats in November 2023 due to a Court of Appeal ruling, which declared that their party, the PDP, was ineligible to sponsor candidates in the election. However, following the Supreme Court’s reversal of a similar judgment against Governor Mutfwang, the dismissed lawmakers have expressed their determination to reclaim their seats through a judicial review of the decision.
In January, they made a forceful attempt to storm the Plateau State House of Assembly, but their efforts were thwarted by the lawmakers who had benefited from the court ruling.
Last week, the appellate court not only dismissed the lawsuit filed by the lawmakers but also imposed a collective fine of N128 million on them for bringing forth a frivolous suit that wasted the court’s time.
Despite the recent court decision and their appointment as liaison officers, the PDP lawmakers insist that they are continuing to pursue their case, asserting that the court has not yet ruled on the merits of their situation.
Timothy Dantong, representing Riyom constituency and one of the affected PDP lawmakers, clarified, “The judgment of the Appeal Court is being misinterpreted. It was a day for a hearing, and our lawyer did not present the case on that day. There was an application for an extension of time. The issue of reviewing our case was not even brought before the court that day.
