N1 Million Raised By Nigerians For Former Prisoners Wrongfully Jailed For 24 Years

In a poignant interview with The Punch, Lasisi and Adeyemi recounted their traumatic ordeal. Arrested in August 2000 and sentenced to death in 2009, their ordeal began when Adeyemi was detained alongside Lasisi at a police station in Oyo State. Adeyemi had taken Lasisi in after a dispute with the prime suspects.

In a surprising turn, the herbalist initially linked to the case was released by the police, while another suspect, who was reportedly innocent, died under torture. Lasisi and Adeyemi revealed that they were coerced into false confessions to stop the brutal interrogation, a tactic used to extract admissions of guilt.

The public’s support through donations aims to assist them in rebuilding their lives after years of wrongful incarceration.
