N4bn Alleged Fraud: Court Rejects Ex-Gov Obiano’s Bid To Halt Trial, Legal Battle Continues
A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application put forth by former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, challenging the jurisdiction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to try him.
Obiano, who faces nine charges related to an alleged N4bn theft and was arraigned on January 24, argued through his counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, that the EFCC lacked the authority to prosecute him. He further petitioned the court to dismiss the charges, labeling them as an abuse of the legal process and asserting the absence of a prima facie case against him.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo deemed the application lacking in merit and consequently dismissed it.
Further details will be provided as they unfold.
