In a statement issued on Sunday, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), confirmed the operation, which took place on Friday. Ali explained that the strike was launched after intelligence reports indicated a heavy concentration of terrorists in the area.

He stated, “In continuation of its sustained air operations against terrorist hideouts in Kaduna State, the Nigerian Air Force, under Operation Whirl Punch, has destroyed a logistics base belonging to terrorists in Yadi Forest, Giwa LGA. This operation was executed on Friday, September 27, 2024, following credible intelligence revealing the presence of armed terrorists and a weapons cache in the area.”

Ali further explained that surveillance confirmed the consistent presence of terrorists and their motorcycles at the base. Intelligence also revealed that Kadade Gurgu had been providing shelter to other notorious terrorist leaders fleeing military operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.

“The Air Component dispatched an aircraft, supported by an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, to engage the target. Though the area initially appeared deserted, terrorists were seen fleeing as the aircraft approached,” Ali continued.

He reported that the strikes successfully hit the logistics facility, setting it ablaze with thick black smoke billowing from the site. Independent reports from local informants later confirmed that the base had been destroyed and multiple terrorists were killed in the attack.
