According to a statement from the NAF, the airstrikes resulted in the neutralisation of numerous bandits and the destruction of large stockpiles of weapons and vital resources used by the criminals in their operations.

Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of NAF Public Relations, confirmed the success of the mission, noting that several reports indicated the escape of kidnapping victims who had managed to regain their freedom amidst the chaos caused by the strikes.

Akinboyewa explained, “As part of the ongoing air interdiction campaign in Northwest Nigeria, Operation Farautar Mujiya, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma carried out strategic airstrikes on November 12, 2024, targeting major bandit hideouts in Dunya Hill and Batauna Forest. These areas, known for their dense vegetation and network of caves, have long served as strongholds for criminal groups.”

He continued, “The goal of these strikes was to dismantle the entrenched bandit networks and weaken their operational capacity. The operation was preceded by thorough intelligence gathering, which identified high-value targets, including key logistical hubs and hidden weapon caches used by the bandits.”

The air assault led to the neutralisation of many bandits and the destruction of critical resources, significantly disrupting the criminals’ operations. Local sources have reported that bandits are fleeing the area as their once-secure hideouts are now in disarray.

Akinboyewa added, “In addition to the combatants neutralised, multiple reports from local communities highlight the escape of several kidnapping victims, who managed to break free amidst the confusion caused by the strikes. These developments indicate the growing success of the operation.”

The statement concluded, “This sustained effort reinforces the commitment of the Armed Forces to bring peace to affected communities, offering renewed hope to those who have long lived under the threat of banditry.
