NAFDAC Takes Down N16 Billion In Expired Merchandise In Ogun Cleanup

This disposal of goods took place on Thursday at the Oke-Diya disposal site within the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

During the demolition operation, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, revealed that this action is part of NAFDAC’s renewed commitment to eradicating substandard, regulated items in Nigeria in order to protect public health.

Adeyeye, represented by NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Mr. Francis Ononiwu, emphasized the necessity of this action to prevent these products from re-entering the market.

The items in question encompassed substandard and falsified medical products, unsafe cosmetics, unwholesome processed food additives, counterfeits, and various other products regulated by NAFDAC.

Some of these items were confiscated by the agency from manufacturers, importers, and distributors, while others were voluntarily surrendered to NAFDAC by compliant companies, trade unions, and non-governmental organizations.

She stated, “NAFDAC is entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s health, and as such, is dedicated to eliminating expired medical products, illicit drugs, unwholesome foods, chemicals, and other non-compliant products.”
