Speaking at a press conference in Kano, Mohammed maintained that the party could not field a candidate whose commitment to the ADC’s presidential standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, was in doubt.

According to her, Khalil has repeatedly expressed support for President Tinubu, making his political allegiance widely known.

She argued that many people in Northern Nigeria would find it difficult to support any aspirant perceived to be aligned with the current administration, which she accused of failing to address the region’s economic and security challenges.

Mohammed said the North has experienced worsening hardship, hunger and insecurity in recent years, adding that many families have continued to bear the consequences of the situation.

Responding to suggestions that she single-handedly influenced the party’s decision on the governorship ticket, she clarified that the position was not hers alone, noting that she is only one of seven members of the party’s consensus committee chaired by Ben Obi.

The ADC deputy national chairman also inaugurated a new caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs in Kano State. The committee is headed by Umar Bala as Caretaker Chairman, with Ismail Musa Ibrahim serving as Secretary, Lawal Adamu Giginyu as Publicity Secretary, and Barrister Mohammed Lawal Adamu as Legal Adviser.

When contacted for his reaction by Daily Trust, Ibrahim Khalil declined to respond to Mohammed’s comments, saying only, “I will not reply to her.”
