According to Naija News, the Senate Clerk, Chinedu Francis Akubueze, issued an internal memo about the session. The memo, signed by Akubueze, states that senators must make all necessary arrangements to attend, as critical national issues will be discussed.

The memo reads: “Dear Distinguished Senators,

The President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, has directed that an emergency plenary sitting be held as follows:

Date: WEDNESDAY, JULY 31st, 2024
TIME: 12 NOON

Senators are requested to ensure their attendance as important national matters will be on the agenda. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this interruption of the recess and appreciate your understanding.”

The National Assembly had begun a seven-week recess, scheduled to end on September 17th, 2024. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives were to observe this yearly break following their last plenary session.
