Nationwide Shutdown: PENGASSAN Strike Paralyzes NNPC, NUPRC, NMDPRA Operations
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has commenced a nationwide strike that has crippled activities across major oil and gas regulatory bodies, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Punch, the main entrance of the NUPRC headquarters in Abuja was locked on Monday, leaving several workers stranded outside. Security personnel on duty confirmed that access was restricted in strict adherence to PENGASSAN’s directive.
Similarly, operations at the NMDPRA were completely shut down, with staff observing full compliance with the industrial action.
Tony Iziogba, Chairman of PENGASSAN in the NMDPRA, confirmed the development, stating that the union had achieved “100 per cent compliance,” barring both employees and visitors from entering the premises. He noted that the same level of compliance had been recorded at NNPCL and other affected agencies.
The union explained that the strike was triggered by the alleged unlawful dismissal of about 800 workers at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. In response, PENGASSAN has ordered the suspension of crude oil and gas supplies to the refinery — a move that has sparked fears of major disruptions in fuel distribution across the country.
