In the first quarter of 2024, the number of electricity consumers increased by 210,000, reaching 12.33 million from 12.12 million in Q4 2023, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics. This represents a 1.78% growth. The report, which focuses on energy billing, revenue generation, and DISCOs’ customer base, noted a 9.47% year-on-year increase in electricity customers to 12.33 million from 11.27 million in Q1 2023………. Metered customers in Q1 2024 totaled 5.91 million, marking a 5.38% increase from Q4 2023’s 5.61 million and an 11.26% rise from Q1 2023’s 5.31 million. Estimated electricity customers rose to 6.43 million in Q1 2024, up 10.22% from Q4 2023’s 5.83 million and 7.88% from Q1 2023’s 5.96 million.
Electricity distribution companies collected N291.62 billion in revenue in Q1 2024, slightly down from N294.95 billion in Q4 2023, but up 17.91% year-on-year from Q1 2023’s N247.33 billion. Electricity supply totaled 5,769 Gwh in Q1 2024, down 1.41% from Q4 2023’s 6,432 Gwh and from Q1 2023’s 5,851 Gwh.
