The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its remarkable strides over the past 25 years, describing the Commission as a beacon of progress in Nigeria’s quest for regional development.

Speaking at the 25th Anniversary celebration held in Port Harcourt, the Minister said the NDDC has evolved from a transactional agency into a transformational institution, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event was a high-level gathering that had in attendance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Also in attendance was former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, several other distinguished senators, Rivers State Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), the Deputy Governor of Imo State, and other key stakeholders from across the Niger Delta and beyond.
“The NDDC’s achievements in infrastructure, education, health and empowerment are commendable,” Momoh stated, highlighting legacy projects like the Ogbia-Nembe Road in Bayelsa, the Ibeno bridge in Akwa Ibom, the Okitipupa substation in Ondo, and the ongoing Abraka–Benin Road linking Edo and Delta States.
He also acknowledged recent social interventions, including free medical outreach programs, provision of digital learning tools, and youth/women empowerment schemes across the region.
While celebrating the Commission’s progress, Momoh stressed the need for accountability, sustainability, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.
“This 25th anniversary is not just about reflection—it’s a call to deepen our commitment to inclusive and people-centered development,” he concluded.
The Minister congratulated the Board and Management of the NDDC, led by Chairman Chiedu Ebie and Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and urged them to remain focused on delivering impactful projects that truly transform the Niger Delta.
