Ndume Reflects On His Future In APC, Says He Could Leave
Ndume Reflects On His Future In APC, Says He Could LeaveAli Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, has expressed his willingness to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the party leadership allows him to do so. Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, Ndume revealed that he had considered leaving the party earlier but chose to remain due to his close relationship with President Bola Tinubu and his desire to support the president’s success.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ndume explained, “I told you I am very close to Tinubu. I don’t want him to fail, and that’s why I’ve been enduring some of these insults. Otherwise, I can leave the party. The party has even told me I can go if I want. I can apply to them, and if they approve it, I will leave.”
The senator’s comments came amid his criticism of the tax reform bills proposed by President Tinubu’s administration. Ndume’s relationship with the APC became strained earlier this year when he was removed from his position as Senate Chief Whip in July. The APC cited an interview in which Ndume criticized the Tinubu government as the reason for his removal.
The APC’s national leadership, including party chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and national secretary Basiru Ajibola, issued a letter recommending that Ndume be relieved of his role. The party also suggested that Ndume leave the APC if he was dissatisfied with the administration rather than continue to criticize a president from his own party.
Ndume later apologized for his remarks and promised not to criticize the president again. However, his recent comments suggest that his frustration with the party’s leadership and policies persists.
