The senator, who has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, pointed out his academic and professional background, emphasizing that he had taught at a polytechnic for 20 years before venturing into politics. He also highlighted his educational experience in both Nigeria and the United States, saying that despite his qualifications, some people still dismiss him due to his background.

“I’m 65 years old. I schooled in Nigeria and in America. But because I wear Agbada and because I’m from Borno State, some people call me ignorant,” Ndume remarked. “I taught in polytechnics for 20 years before joining politics, and I married two of my daughters to Yoruba men.”

The senator’s comments came after a heated debate in the Senate on Thursday, during which Ndume vehemently opposed the tax reform bills. He argued that the timing of the bills was a major concern, given the current public perception of the administration. Ndume believed that introducing such significant reforms at this time could face strong opposition, and he suggested that the bills needed more consideration before being pushed through.
