NECO Exposes Fake Social Media Account In Sh*cking Cyber Scam Alert

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has disassociated itself from a fraudulent Facebook account falsely created in the name of its Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO raised alarm over the fake account, warning the public of the deception.

“The Council wishes to alert the public to the existence of this fake Facebook account to prevent unsuspecting individuals from falling victim to scammers,” the statement read.

NECO revealed that security agencies have been notified and are taking necessary action to track and prosecute those behind the fraudulent activity.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed both the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and NECO to fully transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) by 2026.

This was announced by Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during a monitoring tour with officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Bwari on Monday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), more than two million candidates have registered for the ongoing national examinations, which are taking place in over 800 centres nationwide.

Dr. Alausa disclosed that objective test papers would be administered via CBT starting this November, while by May/June 2026, both objective and essay sections will be conducted entirely through CBT.

“If JAMB can successfully conduct CBT exams for over 2.2 million candidates, WAEC and NECO can do the same,” he said.

“By 2026, both objective and theory papers will be taken on CBT — this is crucial to ending examination malpractice.”

The minister also noted that a committee is currently reviewing national examination standards, and their findings are expected to be presented by next month.
