Ned Nwoko Urges Government To Permit Firearm Ownership For Nigerians Amid Rising InsecurityDelta North Senator Ned Nwoko has once again called on the federal government to permit Nigerians to carry firearms for self-defense. Nwoko argued that, given the numerous security challenges facing Nigeria, enabling the public to defend themselves would be a pragmatic approach. When asked if allowing citizens to carry guns would address the nation’s security issues, he confidently affirmed, “Yes, it will.”

He shared a personal anecdote, recalling the tragic murder of his Senior Legislative Aide last November by gunmen at his home in Abuja. The aide was unable to defend himself during the attack. Nwoko noted that had his aide been armed, the situation might have ended differently.

“My SLA was killed when kidnappers attacked his estate. When they knocked on his door, his wife and children hid under the bed. He was taken, and we still don’t know what happened to him. If he had been armed, or if others in the estate had firearms, the kidnappers likely wouldn’t have had the courage to carry out their attack,” Nwoko stated.
