The viral footage, widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter), reveals the moment the policemen questioned the tourist about what she brought for them from the Netherlands when she encountered them along the Moniya-Iseyin Road in Oyo State, southwest Nigeria. Despite the woman explaining that she was en route to the Nigerian capital city, Abuja, the officers insisted on receiving money from her before allowing her to proceed. The video depicts the officers chorusing their demands, saying, “Wetin you bring come? Give me something. Wetin you wan give me? Give me money.”
The incident has sparked outrage among social media users, with one commenter, Akinwale, expressing concern about the recruitment process for the Nigerian Police Force, suggesting that issues within society may be contributing to such behavior. Another user, BRAVO-ẸniỌban’kẹ́, questioned how the officers passed through police college, emphasizing the need for scrutiny in the recruitment process.
Responding to the incident, the Oyo State Police Command, through its verified X handle, deemed the situation regrettable. It assured that all individuals involved in the incident had been apprehended and would face disciplinary actions. The police command also pledged to enhance supervision to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
