Meranda’s appointment follows Obasa’s removal as Speaker due to allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Here are 10 things you should know about Meranda:
- Mojisola Meranda was born on August 16, 1980, to the family of late Chief T. A. Lawal Akapo (Ojora of Lagos) and Princess M. A. Lawal-Akapo from the royal families of Ojora, Aromire, Onitana, Oloto, and Oniru.
- Her late father was a legislator at the local level before ascending to the position of Ojora of Lagos.
- Meranda’s mother hails from the prominent Oniru family in Lagos, while her brother, Oba AbdulWasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, is the Oniru of Iru land.
- She began her primary education at St. Charles Nursery and Primary School before transferring to Randle Primary School in Surulere, from 1986 to 1992.
- Mojisola attended Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School (1992-1996) and Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School (1996-1998), both located in Surulere.
- She earned her West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1998 and later obtained an advanced certificate in software development in 2005.
- Meranda pursued a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration at Lagos State University, completing her degree in 2013. Between 2007 and 2008, she worked as a procurement manager in the oil and gas industry with Cirrus Nigeria Limited.
- Her political journey began in 2008 when she took active roles in Apapa local government, first serving as a senior special assistant on intervention and intergovernmental affairs to the then Chairman, Ayodeji Joseph, followed by her role as a supervisory councillor for health.
