He said the federal government is intensifying efforts to resolve the longstanding challenges in the power sector, noting that reforms are already underway.
Tegbe made the remarks on Monday shortly after his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu, stating that although there is no immediate solution to the sector’s problems, Nigerians will begin to see gradual and meaningful progress.
According to him, the administration is fully aware of the difficulties in the sector and is committed to sustained intervention to improve electricity delivery.
“This is a sector that we all know has a couple of challenges and a lot of efforts is being put into this sector by this current administration. People might not appreciate it but very soon people will appreciate it,” he said.
The minister emphasized that he was not making unrealistic promises, noting that stable, round-the-clock electricity cannot be achieved overnight.
“I am not promising a magic wand. I am not promising 24 hours, seven days in a week power. We will get there ultimately, but what I promise Nigerians is that we will see visible improvements,” he added.
Tegbe said recent feedback indicated some improvements in electricity supply in parts of the country, attributing the development to the ongoing reforms by the Tinubu administration and the efforts of sector agencies.
He disclosed that in the past four weeks, he had engaged major stakeholders in the power sector, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and other relevant institutions.
“All of them have given commitments, and that is what you are seeing today with the improvements,” he said.
The minister appealed to Nigerians for patience, assuring that the government is working to address challenges across generation, transmission, and distribution.
“Nigerians should please bear with us. The President understands the challenges. We are addressing those challenges and we will make sure we fix it both in generation, transmission and distribution,” he stated.
He cited recent interventions, including the quick restoration of a feeder station in Katampe by TCN within 24 hours, as evidence of improved responsiveness in the sector.
Tegbe also noted that the Niger Delta Power Holding Company had resumed operations after years of inactivity, describing it as part of ongoing reforms.
He urged Nigerians to support the administration and pray for the success of the reforms, expressing optimism that the country would soon experience a more stable power supply.
“Very soon Nigeria will be lit up by God’s grace,” he said.
