The indefinite strike, which commenced on Wednesday, was prompted by the failure of the state government to address the grievances of the workers.

Resulting in the closure of numerous public offices and the absence of civil servants from their duties.

Governor Bago promptly engaged in discussions with labor leaders, convening a meeting in the council chamber of the Niger State Government House. The fruitful dialogue concluded with both parties uniting in the labor solidarity anthem, signifying a favorable resolution.

During a subsequent press briefing, Idrees Lafene, the state NLC chairman, announced the successful resolution of the raised concerns.

“We have comprehensively addressed all the raised issues and have reached a mutually agreeable understanding with the government.

“For instance, concerning the wage increase, the government has committed to implementing a N20,000 raise across the board for both state and local government employees by March.

“In terms of the leave grant, it has been agreed to disburse it over a six-month period, with a one-time payment for the time being.

“To address concerns regarding reversed appointments, a tripartite committee has been established, comprising representatives from the House of Assembly, the executive, and the Labour,” Lafene stated.

He further indicated his intention to communicate the outcomes of the meeting with the governor to union members, emphasizing that only they possess the authority to conclude the strike.

Governor Bago expressed optimism that the labor union would heed the resolution, given the successful resolution of all contentious issues.

“We have reached an agreement and can assure Nigerians and residents of Niger State that all raised concerns have been satisfactorily addressed.

“Arrears have been settled, and although some issues were inherited and promises were not fulfilled, we have now resolved them. We have solidified our commitment through a comprehensive agreement between the Labor and the state government.

“All issues have been effectively resolved.

“For instance, the leave grant has been replaced with a consolidated salary. Unfortunately, while some received payments in 2019, others did not. Additionally, regarding appointments, it’s the nomenclature, not the appointments themselves, that’s at issue. A tripartite committee has been formed involving the state government, the state Assembly, and the Labor to review the laws and find an amicable resolution,” Governor Bago assured.

He further reassured the public that normalcy would soon be restored in public offices.
