Nigerains React As EFCC Boss Drops Bombshell: Yahoo Boys Are No Different From Bandits And Kidnappers

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has shed light on the alarming evolution of Nigerian internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo boys’.

In a video interview shared by the EFCC on Monday, Olukoyede revealed that many of these fraudsters are now involved in far more serious crimes, including banditry, kidnapping, and money laundering for politically exposed individuals.

He emphasized that the EFCC’s crackdown on Yahoo boys is far from over, describing the issue as a full-blown national crisis.

Olukoyede condemned the global embarrassment caused by the actions of these young fraudsters, noting that they have tarnished Nigeria’s image both at home and abroad.

Referring to the recent arrest of over 120 suspected Yahoo boys, he expressed concern that many Nigerian youths have abandoned the value of honest labor.

“The most dangerous part is that it’s not just internet fraud anymore,” he warned. “We have solid evidence that some of these individuals are also involved in banditry and kidnapping. When they can’t find victims to scam, they resort to abduction. Others help launder illicit funds for powerful politicians.”
