The Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has approved the release of fifteen trucks laden with grains to their rightful owners, following a presidential directive aimed at bolstering food security.

In an official statement released by the Nigeria Customs on X, the Public Relations Officer of the command highlighted that the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Kamal Mohammed, presided over the handover ceremony at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto. He urged traders to reciprocate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s generosity by ensuring swift sales of the grains within Nigerian markets.

Moreover, Comptroller Kamal disclosed collaborative efforts with the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) to oversee the distribution of these grains in local markets, preventing their diversion through smuggling routes.

Emphasizing the Nigeria Customs Service’s steadfast commitment under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, Comptroller Mohammed underscored the agency’s resolve to combat smuggling. He elaborated on the recent reinforcement of patrol fleets in the Command, highlighting their role in securing borders and thwarting unpatriotic activities aimed at compromising national interests.

This initiative signifies a concerted push towards enhancing food security and safeguarding national interests, highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts among government agencies and stakeholders in fostering a prosperous and self-reliant nation.
