Mahama, who arrived at approximately 2:30 pm, is meeting with Tinubu for the first time since his inauguration on January 7, 2025.

The discussions between the two leaders are expected to center on strengthening diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Ghana, with a focus on key regional issues within ECOWAS, including trade, security, and economic development.

During their engagement, Tinubu and Mahama are set to explore areas of mutual interest, aiming to foster deeper cooperation in addressing pressing challenges across the continent.

In December 2024, Mahama had previously visited Tinubu at the State House shortly after his election as Ghana’s President. At the time, Tinubu expressed confidence that Mahama’s leadership would contribute to greater stability within the ECOWAS region.

Meanwhile, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, clarified that Mahama’s visit to Abuja on Thursday was private.

Commenting on the meeting, Onanuga stated via his account that the Ghanaian leader was in Nigeria for personal reasons.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the visiting President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday. Mahama came on a private visit,” he wrote.
