In response to the incidents, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, expressed deep concern and emphasized the need for military personnel to adhere to traffic regulations.

Nwachukwu highlighted the recurring conflicts between soldiers and LASTMA officials, indicating the necessity to enhance cooperation between security agencies in Lagos.

Nwachukwu announced that the military police have been instructed to conduct Operation Checkmate, which involves intermittent surveillance to identify and apprehend personnel violating traffic rules or engaging in misconduct.

He stressed that both military personnel and rule enforcers should refrain from taking the law into their own hands, as physical altercations tend to exacerbate situations and lead to violent confrontations.

The Nigerian Army is committed to sensitizing its personnel about the significance of adhering to traffic laws, promoting interagency collaboration, and preventing further clashes between security agencies.
