In a strong cautionary message, the Nigerian Army has addressed the potential of soldiers plotting to overthrow the government led by President Bola Tinubu. Major General Mohammed Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA), delivered this stern warning on Wednesday, August 30. He stressed that any form of disloyalty within the ranks of the Nigerian Armed Forces would not be tolerated.

The GOC underscored that any semblance of disloyalty is unacceptable within the Nigerian military. He made it clear that individuals unable to uphold loyalty are free to resign from their roles and seek alternative employment opportunities.

This warning surfaces against a backdrop of recent military coup activities occurring across African nations, with Gabon being the latest example on Wednesday.

During his address at the Brigade, Major General Usman, flanked by Brigadier General Mohammed Tajudeen Aminu, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, acknowledged that challenges exist but emphasized that these challenges are not unique to the Brigade Command. He assured that concerted efforts are being made to effectively address these issues.

The GOC implored soldiers to consistently demonstrate discipline, unwavering loyalty, and the highest levels of professionalism in their duties.

As part of his visit, Major General Usman also inaugurated a Quarter Guard project at the Barrack. He highlighted the significance of the presence of soldiers in Nigeria, affirming that the nation’s security is closely intertwined with their role and responsibility.
