“We established distribution and began exploring animation and video, which attracted the interest of a South African company,” he explained. This interest marked a pivotal moment for the venture, as the firm aimed to acquire a majority stake in the comic business.

“They needed part of my shares to achieve their 51% ownership,” Davies continued. When they wired the funds, he was overwhelmed with anxiety. “For two days, I couldn’t sleep. I worried they might think Nigerians were fraudsters and suspected a mistake due to the unexpected amount, which had an extra zero.”

Upon contacting his friend, the company’s founder, Davies expressed his concerns. “I thought I was supposed to receive $25,000, but they sent me $250,000. I was sure there had been a mistake.” To his relief, his friend reassured him, saying, “No mistake. The company’s valuation means I just received three and a half million dollars. I’ve just bought myself a house.”

Reflecting on his unexpected windfall, Davies noted, “I invested $5,000 for half my shares and ended up with $250,000.” The venture ultimately flourished, becoming a valuable asset that is now part of Disney’s portfolio. “That particular company today belongs to Disney,” he added.
