The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has firmly opposed the actions of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, regarding the demolitions taking place in the nation’s capital, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview, the President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, likened these demolitions, which he asserted primarily target the underprivileged, to a form of tyranny akin to that of Hitler.

Responding to questions during an AIT interview, Comrade Ajaero stated, “Shelter is a fundamental human need, as per Maslow’s hierarchy, and you demolish it, telling people to disregard it while your so-called master plan remains a mystery….CONTINUE READING

Nobody knows where your master plan is. You watch them struggle, with some using their retirement savings to build their homes, only to have them demolished. This cannot continue.”

Accusing Nigeria’s elites of waging a war against the poor, Comrade Ajaero emphasized that “the political class in Nigeria should recognize that the impoverished masses are enduring unbearable hardships, and they can no longer endure.”

Regarding the manner in which Wike has executed these demolitions, which the NLC president claimed have disproportionately impacted the less privileged in Abuja, he stated, “It is pushing the masses into poverty and is executed with a level of impunity reminiscent of Hitler’s regime in Germany.

This must not persist because it affects a significant portion of the workforce. If you examine whose homes are being demolished, it is those individuals for whom housing has not been provided.”

“The commitment to welfare in Nigeria has eroded, even though it is mandated by the Constitution. Nobody cares about your transportation, you generate your own water and electricity, pay your children’s school fees, and there are no accessible hospitals.

Even when workers contribute to housing policies, the funds are being diverted. This war cannot continue,” declared the NLC president, pledging to halt the demolitions that are allegedly impacting the working class in Abuja and believed to be orchestrated by Wike.
